Gene for Hair Loss May Have Been Discovered: Baldness Cure Forthcoming?

Japanese researchers have studied hair loss in mice and they may have discovered the gene that causes hair loss. They believe it is the same gene that is associated with alopecia (inherited hair loss) in people. The gene is called Sox21 and the researchers bred mice that did not have this gene. These mice experienced regular hair loss that began at the crown of their head until all the hair fell out, including the whiskers. This happened within 25 days. Any new hair growth was followed by hair loss.

The repeated hair loss in the subject mice was observed for two years. It was also noted that the mice had larger oil-secreting glands around hair follicles and had thicker skin during periods of hair loss. After analyzing human skin samples, the scientists led by Yumiko Saga of the Division of Mammalian Development at the National Institute of Genetics in Mishima, discovered that the same gene is expressed in the hair shaft cuticle of people.

The findings could pave the way for cures to specific hair loss in the future.

Winning the Battle Against Alopecia

by Benedict Smythe

There have been a lot of people that have seemed perfectly healthy, live a clean lifestyle, but still experience the perils of spot baldness. This condition (known as Alopecia as well) is responsible for creating bald spots on the scalp of both men and women alike. The root cause of this condition is still unknown and no definite cures have been found. The consolation to this is that half of the patients of this condition grow their hair back in about a year or so. Doctors employ different kinds of treatments to promote hair growth and to contain hair loss but there are non-medical ways to deal with it.

Wearing wigs

Wearing wigs can be a fun and exciting experience. The wig making industry has created different kinds of wigs to match the skin tone and body structure of a variety of people. You can find a number of different colors, lengths, and styles of wigs in their respective stores. You can try them out and seem which one fits you best.

Wearing hats

Sporting different head gear is also another way to compensate for uncontrollable hair loss. You can let out the artist in you be expressing your fashion sense through mix and matching your outfits. You can choose from different styles and colors of berets, beanies, caps, and top hats to give you different looks for different occasions.

Natural supplements

There are pills and creams that are available that are said to promote the regeneration of our beloved head hair. They are usually found in places like pharmacies and health supplement stores. The ingredients used in them widely vary and there are those that don't do any good at all, while others have worked miracles for people with hair loss problems.

Stargazing

There have been a lot of Hollywood celebrities that have used the bald look to their advantage. They would create a different type of aura when they would attend events and/or appear in movies. Stars such as Bruce Willis (Die Hard Trilogy), Jack Nicholson (Batman), Billy Zane( The Phantom), and Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) all have little or no hair at all but don't seem to care. They would have a certain swagger in the way they walk, which exudes dignity and confidence.

Looking at how these stars carry themselves, it's easy to see that having hair loss is not a big problem. There is a saying that goes "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade". This pretty much sums up the attitude one should have towards a balding head. If you think positively, you can turn things around and make baldness one of your strengths instead of your weakness. No matter how you would choose to deal with alopecia, what matters most is that you actually deal with it.

You should not lose hope and fight with every ounce of strength you can muster. There are people out there that have had to face worse problems (such as Senator John McCain being a prisoner of war for up to 5 years!) and still had the strength to over come it.

Different Solutions To Hair Loss

by Kelly Hunter

Everyone in the world is different, thus, everyone is going to need different things that can help them cure baldness. Finding a baldness cure is not easy, because there are so many out there. All of them work, but not all of them are going to work for you. That is why there are so many different types of products out there.

Today we are going to cover a few of the different products you may want to think about using. Now, do keep in mind that the products and steps we are going to talk about today are not going to work for everyone. Lots of people have different issues that could be causing their hair loss, and they have to deal with those issues first.

The first thing that you may want to try as a baldness cure is a topical solution. The most popular of which, would more than likely be Rogaine. There are some other generic kinds of this product that you can get out there that are going to be cheaper if that is a route that you are willing to go. Either way, the product that you get is going to have an active ingredient in it called minoxodil.

Usually the product is going to come in some kind of foam or cream form, which you apply right onto your head. Before you rush out to try this product, you need to know that topical solutions do not work for your hair line, just the crown of your head. Thus, if you have a hairline that keeps on moving back, Rogaine is not going to do much to help you. Also, remember that there is a Rogaine for women, but they have to be sure to get the one made for women, because it has different ingredients in it.

The next thing that you could do is take propecia to help take care of your baldness problems. Now it's important to note that women can not take propecia and it come in the form of a daily pill that you will have to take for the rest of your life. You will notice your hair stops falling out as soon as you take it and starts again as soon as you stop. Once again, this is a type of product that will not work for your hairline as so many people have a problem with. This is a type of product that works for thinning and balding areas on the top of your head. If younger men do take it, it has been proven to be effective in keeping hair from falling out in that area if take early enough.

Now, if you want to take care of your hair problems once and for all, you have to go with a hair transplant. A lot of people thing that hair transplants are not a good baldness cure, because they look so fake. However, those people have not seen the new type of transplant. The days of doll looking hair are over. New science has shown its head, and you are able to have hair from the back of your head move to the front of your head and placed in. The best part about it is the fact that you will not be able to notice that it's a transplant, unless it's looked at by a microscope.
